"Public and Private language" by Richard Rodriguez

How so the words public and private relate to the issues of bilingual language?
The words public and private relates to the issues of bilingual language, because of diversity and individuality.
"Public and Private language" by Richard Rodriguez showed how private and public language relates to issues of bilingual education, Especially in young children. Parents that come from foreign countries to America try to keep their culture alive in the home, by speaking there first language, also following the cultural beliefs that they grew up on, which they will now teach their kids. The problem with this is there is no diversity in the home. Diversity in the home  and schools is of great significance to  children and people who come from other countries.
Rodriguez spoke of how shy and timid he was in pucblic. Then when at home,Spanish what he considered a private language, made him feel safe and a comforting feeling of belonging. Rodriguez said "for me there were none of the gradations between public and private society so normal to a maturing child". "Outside the house was public society ; inside the house was private". In the privacy of your home, when surrounded by family you would tend to be more comfortable. These are people you spend most of your life with, that you don't mind being yourself around.
" only when I was able to think if myself as an American , no longer an alien in gringo society, could I seek the rights and opportunities necessary for full public individuality". Bilingual education is important because there are many children coming from families like Richard Rodriguez and need to feel some kind of comfort when attending school. Bilingual education shows children it's okay to bring out a little of your personality to be comfortable, instead of trying to make you blend In with all the other kids. Rodriguez also said that "Bilingual educators say that children loose a degree of "individuality" by becoming assimilated into public society". (paragraph 40).
Individuality is what makes people who they are, it is what educates us. People are mentioned to be able to teach each other about the different cultures that we are surrounded by.we should be able to teach our kids it's okay to be who you are, and not let anyone make them feel different. Diversity at a young age in my opinion will help a child prosper in life, a little knowledge of everything will be a perfect first step.

why students need a winter break

winter break for students should be required for all schools to give. I feel that this should be required because as a student, I know for a fact how stress full juggling school and an every day life can be. The winter break will give students time to take care of their personal needs, for example doctor appointments ,Family affairs without having to take of a day of school. After a long well needed rest I assume  students will comeback ready to work harder and more focused then when they left. Now I know people handle things different some people work better when they go to school straight through, taking a break might only cause them to get discouraged and maybe leave, but I feel this winter break given and help people be more reliable on coming back and show dedication.
